Any of several species of tick of the genus Amblyomma of the Ixodidae, especially A. hebraeum, characterized by a patterned shield; heartwater tick, see heartwater sense 2. Cf. bont-legged tick.
Note:
Bont ticks transmit heartwater in cattle, sheep and goats, and tick-bite fever in humans.
